Established in 1962, Richardson Holdings is a diversified company that delivers high quality electrical engineering, infrastructure and advertising solutions for both public and private sector customers. In a nutshell, over the past 6 decades Richardson Holdings has helped electrify a fifth of the island, is the largest electrical pole and railway sleeper manufacturer in Sri Lanka and is modernizing Colombo through its pioneering smart street lighting project. Plus, they own the largest outdoor advertising company in Sri Lanka (us).

1997
The CSR seed was planted
It started with a newspaper article. An article that explained that because there were only 27 bus shelters in Colombo, commuters frequently got wet in the rain. The article planted a seed. A desire to help commuters.

Bus shelter improvements began
When the opportunity arose to found a joint venture with Midday Group India, Richardson Outdoors was formed. The company won the tender to handle Colombo’s bus shelters and began work improving the quantity and quality of bus shelters in the capital.
1999
Sri Lanka’s first lit bus shelters installed
To improve commuter safety, Richardson Outdoor introduced illuminated bus shelters. These had the added benefit of improving visibility of advertising at night.

Hoardings introduced

Hoardings introduced
Richardson Outdoor began providing opportunities to advertise on hoardings both within and outside Colombo, so that local businesses could reach a bigger audience and grow.

BIA airport advertising collaboration began
Richardson Outdoor began collaborating with BIA airport to provide branding opportunities on baggage trolleys, so local companies could advertise their products to high spending jet setters and international travelers.

Directional street signage improvements began
With a view to helping commuters navigate the city, Richardson Outdoor increased the quality and quantity of both gantries and street name boards in Colombo. They also created more geo-targetted advertising opportunities for businesses.
2013
Better billboard advertising helped beautify the city
Richardson Outdoor won the billboard contract and developed advertising opportunities and created a space for Colombo’s citizens to stick bills, fliers and posters which had otherwise defaced the city.

Solar powered street name boards introduced

Solar powered street name boards introduced
Designed to increase visibility and make nighttime navigation easier, Richardson Outdoor introduced environmentally conscious solar powered street name boards.
2019
Richardson Outdoor expanded BIA airport presence
Richardson Outdoor helped modernise the face of the BIA airport by creating advertising opportunities in the arrivals, departures and pier areas. This improves the travel experience and allows businesses to reach a valuable audience in a captive setting.

Digital LED gantry advertising introduced

Digital LED gantry advertising introduced
Richardson Outdoor increased Colombo’s digital advertising opportunities by introducing high quality LED gantries that enable brands to produce video content or easily change their advertising to accommodate promotions and specific products.

Digital Data Insights Introduced
The first and only outdoor advertising company in Sri Lanka to offer granular digital data insights, Richardson’s viewership information enables brand custodians to buy OOH ads using the same metrics they use to determine their TV and radio spend.
